What is EMDR Intensive Therapy?
EMDR Intensive Therapy is a powerful way to accelerate the healing that you would experience in a typical EMDR session. Rather than going to counseling for an hour session once a week, you would set aside a specific chunk of time - 3 or 5 hours - for intensive therapeutic work. It is a concentrated way to get the power of EMDR without having time in between sessions. It helps people journey deeper and feel better faster.
What is Couples Intensive Therapy/Coaching?
Couples intensive therapy/coaching is a focused, extended-format approach to relationship counseling designed to help couples make meaningful progress in a shorter period of time. Instead of traditional weekly 50-minute sessions, intensives involve several hours of therapy at a time, allowing space to slow down, fully explore patterns, practice new ways of connecting, and work through difficult conversations without feeling rushed.
How does it work?
Prior to your intensive, we begin with a Pre-Intensive Consultation to clarify your goals, gather background information, and determine how to best tailor the experience to your needs. We’ll explore what feels stuck right now, the patterns that keep showing up, the impact on your relationship or emotional well-being, and what you hope will feel different moving forward. For couples, this may include communication struggles, emotional disconnection, intimacy concerns, sexual challenges, betrayal, or recurring conflict. For EMDR intensives, we may also identify trauma history, attachment wounds, current triggers, coping patterns, and areas where you feel ready for healing or change.
During the intensive, we create intentional space to go deeper than traditional weekly therapy often allows. Depending on your goals, sessions may include EMDR reprocessing, attachment-focused work, nervous system regulation, communication and conflict repair, intimacy and sexuality work, guided exercises, and experiential interventions designed to help you reconnect with yourself and each other. EMDR intensives focus on helping painful experiences feel less overwhelming while strengthening feelings of safety, confidence, connection, and resilience. Couples and sex therapy intensives focus on helping partners better understand one another, shift longstanding relational patterns, rebuild emotional and physical intimacy, and create new experiences of connection together.
Because every person and relationship is different, intensives are highly personalized. Some clients spend more time processing past experiences and attachment injuries, while others focus more on present-day relationship dynamics, sexuality, communication, or future-oriented growth.
After the intensive, we meet for a Post-Intensive Integration Session to reflect on the work completed, process meaningful insights, and discuss how to continue carrying the progress into everyday life and relationships. The goal is not only meaningful change during the intensive itself, but lasting shifts that continue well beyond the session.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intensives
What does the research say about EMDR Intensives? Intensive application of trauma-focused therapy seems to be well tolerated in patients with PTSD, enabling faster symptom reduction with similar, or even better, results, while reducing the risk that patients drop out prematurely. Learn more here and here. Intensive EMDR treatment is feasible and is indicative of reliable improvement in PTSD symptoms in a very short time frame. Learn more here. An intensive program using EMDR therapy is a potentially safe and effective treatment alternative for complex PTSD. Learn more here. The economy is compelling: even compared to other trauma therapy, the intensive format may decrease treatment time, because of time not spent on a) checking in at the beginning of each session, b) addressing current crises and concerns, c) focusing on stabilizing and coping skills that the client won’t need after trauma healing, or d) assisting the client in regaining composure at the end of the session. What does the research say about Couples Intensives? Research on intensive couples therapy is still an emerging area, but the research we do have is encouraging. Studies of intensive formats of evidence-based couples therapies suggest that concentrated treatment can lead to meaningful improvements in relationship satisfaction, communication, and relationship functioning—particularly when the intensive is grounded in an established therapeutic approach. A couples intensive isn't simply “more therapy in one day.” The benefit comes from having dedicated time to slow down, interrupt unhelpful patterns, practice new skills, and work through issues without having to repeatedly stop and restart the process week after week. That said, an intensive isn't a guarantee of a particular outcome, and it isn't appropriate for every couple. I carefully consider each couple's goals, needs, and circumstances when determining whether an intensive is a good fit.
Where are the Intensives offered? We will meet virtually since I meet with clients all over. You have the option of being in your home, or even getting an AirBNB or a hotel for the day. As long as you are comfortable and somewhere private, where you are is completely optional. Look at your intensive as a personal retreat; it's best to allow time outside of sessions to be unscheduled or filled with only self-care activities like exercise, body work (acupuncture or massage), and creative expression – drawing, painting, cooking.
Can insurance cover some of the cost of the Intensive? Insurance companies do not cover the cost of an intensive. Intensives are not billed through insurance, and super bills are not provided.
Are Intensives worth the time and money? Intensives give you the results you would get from months of therapy in a much shorter period of time. If you add up the cost of weekly therapy, an Intensive is actually more cost effective. Instead of waiting months, you can get the same results in a few days.
